Since 2018 Toonda has supported art, culture, women and education in our community, 30km outside Fort Portal. Now we are taking the workshops online too.
Professional Art Development
These workshops are designed to aid the professionalisation of individual artists. Learning to present yourself effectively, with a compelling artist statement and a professional portfolio, is crucial for success. These tools help you apply for funding and residencies confidently, staying true to your artistic vision while finding your market.
The programme covers four areas: writing and optimising artist statements, including a live review session; creating and curating a professional portfolio, from selecting work to layout and image quality; finding and applying for residencies and grants, including persuasive project proposals; and building and maintaining a network of curators, galleries and fellow artists.

Female Leadership Circle
Once a month, on Saturday afternoons, twenty people from the community , men and women take part in a combined presentation and workshop of one to two hours at the Toonda Library.
As women have to work harder in Uganda to make their way up in this society, all the hosts are women from East Africa, ready to impress and share. They tell their stories to inspire, and give hands-on advice on how to follow in their footsteps in a unique way.
Pre-registration, no fees, for community members.
Self-organised workshops
Alongside the online programme, community members run their own workshops on site. Recent sessions have included making your own graph books for school – 10,000 UGX for adults, 7,000 UGX per child.
Online talks, Q&A sessions and lectures are coming, featuring discussions and presentations from renowned artists, galleries and art educators, to open up global engagement.
